After dropping off the obligatory container of donut holes to the locks guys, we turned north and headed off toward Port Ludlow.
We had almost no wind at first, so we motored till Point No Point. Once we got up there, the winds started to really pick up, so we hoisted both sails. The winds kept picking up, though, and pretty soon we were facing 4 foot waves and 30 knot winds. In the midst of this, Ty bravely lowered both sails and we very carefully motored through the huge waves into Port Ludlow.
Once we tied up at the marina, we dropped off our deliveries at the Yacht Club and the Inn, and went out for a walk into town. There's not much to see in town, but we did find these guys grazing near a construction site of some new luxury homes along the waterfront. (Port Ludlow is not lacking in luxury homes along the waterfront.)
Back at the Marina, we met some crabbers who were tied up near Vicky. They had just brought in their day's haul -- 150 pounds of dungeness crab. We purchased the smallest crab they had, but still couldn't fit it into our pot. Kevin, one of the crabbers, showed us how to split the crab in half, so that we could cram it into the pot. Kevin also told us to use the sea water for cooking, which meant that the crab was perfectly seasoned. We had a delicious dinner, and then walked down to the beach to enjoy dusk before hitting the hay.
In the morning, we loaded up 20 boxes of veggies and about 40 cases of cider from Finn River and then settled in for a hearty bowl of oatmeal (known as boatmeal when consumed aboard Vicky). We found some salmonberries growing near the marina, which were a colorful addition to breakfast.
Ty, patiently posing for a picture with breakfast and some cases of cider...
The return trip much calmer, although we were fighting strong currents and wind out of the south, which made for a long day of sailing.
We got back to Ballard Mill Marina around dusk, just in time for dinner and a good rest before waking on Sunday to deliver the veggies and cider. We were able to keep a box of veggies for ourselves, as well as a box of assorted ciders to enjoy and share with friends.
The lovely view from Vicky's "front porch" at Ballard Mill Marina.
